Union County 24-Hour Release Reality
No verified Union County feed lists everyone released during the previous day. The official detention center page directs readers to the CentralSquare Zuercher portal, but that portal does not enable a release-date field or filter. It cannot produce an official same-day release list. Its disclaimer also says information changes quickly and is updated periodically. No hourly schedule, daily publication time, or post-release retention period is promised.
The portal is still useful when its limits are kept clear. It can show who appears in custody now and who appeared on a selected date within the prior seven days. A before-and-after comparison may reveal that a booking stopped appearing. It cannot identify the exit time, legal reason, or destination. A person may have bonded out, finished a short sentence, transferred to SCDC, or moved to another authority.
Check Union County Same-Day Releases
Use a three-part check for a person believed to have left Union custody today. Begin with the official roster, then compare yesterday's snapshot, and finally ask for the record that closed the booking. Each step answers a different question.
- Search the Union County inmate portal by name. Compare age, arrest date, held-for agency, and hold context to avoid a name-only match.
- Set “In Custody On” to yesterday. An entry there but not today suggests a roster change only. Save the dates used in the comparison.

A useful closing record adds the missing facts: booking number, admission date, exact release date and time, release authority or disposition code, bond information, and receiving agency for a transfer. The county may maintain some fields separately, and lawful exemptions or sealing may limit disclosure.
Read the release type in plain terms. Bond ends the jail hold under court-set conditions while the case can continue. Time served or discharge can mean a local sentence was credited or completed, yet another case or detainer may still control custody. Probation places a person under court-ordered community supervision. Parole is conditional release from a state sentence. A transfer only establishes that Union County stopped holding the person. It does not establish entry into the community.
The portal's arrest date must not be substituted for any of those closing facts. Nor should the held-for agency be assumed to be the final destination. Ask the record custodian to identify the actual receiving agency when the booking ended by transfer.
Union County Bond Release Timing
Union Magistrates Court conducts bail-bond hearings twice daily. The Judicial Branch also lists Bond Court at the detention center address. South Carolina FOIA provides a stronger recent-history route than trying to turn a seven-day roster control into a release list. Section 30-4-30(D)(3) requires public bodies, during office hours and subject to exemptions, to make available documents that identify people confined during the preceding three months. The rule does not force Union County to create a 24-hour feed that does not exist. It does provide an in-person way to pursue recent identification records after a booking drops from the web portal.

The county fee schedule permits no charge when public interest and employee or copy time are minimal. Otherwise, search, retrieval, and redaction are billed at actual cost, capped at the prorated pay of the lowest-paid qualified employee. More than 25 photocopy pages cost $0.20 per page. Postage, fax, and storage are actual cost. Ask for an advance estimate before work begins. Electronic records already held electronically do not carry a copy charge merely because they are sent electronically under state law.
If a field is withheld, ask for the specific legal basis and for all reasonably segregable nonexempt portions. South Carolina FOIA does not require the county to create a new 24-hour list. It can require access to an existing booking, release, transfer, or confinement record that is public and not exempt.

Union Sheriff App Release Limits
Union County Sheriff Jeff Bailey's office offers official apps for Apple devices and Android devices. Their store descriptions mention public-safety information, news, tips, and reporting. They do not promise a current-inmate feature, a release window, or a list of people released during the last 24 hours.
The official sheriff page lists the app and inmate portal as separate resources. The app can be an optional current-information channel, but it cannot replace the portal comparison, phone confirmation, or closing record.
