Union County VINELink Release Coverage

South Carolina VINE is the state victim information and notification network. The public search operates through VINELink for South Carolina, with telephone access at 1-866-727-2846. The service is free. Official materials describe adult reporting across county detention centers, including the system associated with Sheriff Jeff Bailey's Union County office, SCDC prisons, and SCDPPPS supervision.

Coverage must be tied to the agency. A Union County Detention Center entry concerns county custody. An SCDC entry concerns state prison custody. A PPP entry concerns community supervision. A county release followed by SCDC intake is a transfer between custodians, even though Union County custody ended. Reading only the word “released” can hide that distinction.

A VINELink result is a status record and alert source. The exact display can vary by participating agency, so no field should be promised unless the agency supplies it. The most useful parts are identity, reporting agency, and current custody status. Together they show which authority reported the event.

For a county booking, ask the Union County Detention Center for the closing record when the exact release time, authority, or receiving agency matters. For a state prisoner, confirm an actual release through the separate SCDC Released Inmate Search or a discharge record. A future projected date in the current SCDC search is not an actual release.

Read Union County Release Results

A released result means the reporting agency recorded a custody exit. If Union County reported it, the person may have bonded out, completed local custody, or transferred. If SCDC reported it, the state prison term may have moved into probation, supervised reentry, community supervision, or another listed release type. The agency name determines the scope.

VINE does not decide whether a charge was dismissed. That conclusion belongs to the court record. It also does not replace the jail’s booking and release record for the door time. When a county release could be a transfer, request the receiving-agency field and then search that agency’s system.

A no-result screen is equally limited. It can follow a misspelling, an excluded juvenile or mental-health placement, a transfer, delayed data, or a failure to register again after an agency change. Contact Union detention, SCDC, PPP, or the court based on the last known custodian.

Register Union County Release Alerts

Email and text alerts do not require the phone PIN. Telephone retries can continue for up to 48 hours or until the correct PIN confirms receipt. These rules make the PIN an acknowledgment tool, not an offender identifier.

Notification is safest when registered before the expected custody change. If a projected date is known, it can guide timing, but the date may move and the alert remains tied to the agency feed.

A release alert should be saved with the agency name and the time it was received, then checked against the custodian’s record. For Union detention, ask whether the booking closed and whether another agency received the person. For SCDC, compare the alert with the historical Release Date and Release Type. This preserves the alert as one event in a custody chronology instead of turning it into a broader claim.

Union County Victim Notification Help

South Carolina VINE registration does not automatically follow an adult from county detention into SCDC. The state FAQ directs users to register again after an interagency transfer. For an SCDC prisoner, victim enrollment also runs through the SCDC Division of Victim Services at 1-800-835-0304. A county VINELink registration should never be assumed to continue after state intake.

Union County adds a local human route through the Union County Victim Advocate. The county states that the office assists with case status and with the right to reasonable notice when the accused or convicted person is arrested, released, or escapes. That support can help when an automated record is hard to interpret.

The local advocate does not replace the custodian’s release record. The office is a case-status and notification resource that sits beside the statewide alert system.

The transfer rule is especially important at the Union County detention complex. A county detainee may move to SCDC or another authority, and SCDC inmate workers housed at the county work facility remain state prisoners. In both situations, the custody owner can change while the physical location or public listing causes confusion. Re-register with the new reporting agency instead of assuming the original alert follows automatically.

Union County VINELink Release Limits

VINELink is not the federal Bureau of Prisons locator. A federal register number or federal case should be checked through BOP, while a possible ICE transfer belongs in the ICE locator. Neither federal system should be inferred from silence in South Carolina VINE. No adult BOP prison or dedicated ICE detention facility was verified inside Union County, but a transfer outside the county can still occur.

SCDC’s current inmate search is also different. It reflects current state inmates as of the prior midnight and excludes released SCDC offenders, county detainees, supervision cases, fugitives, and juveniles. After an SCDC release, use the separate historical release tool and then PPP when the release type points to supervision.

The SLED Sex Offender Registry covers only people with a legal duty to register. It can supply continuing registration information for that limited group, but it is not a general release database or exact release-date source. Its absence cannot answer an ordinary Union County release question.

Data timing also matters. SCDC’s current search reflects the prior midnight, and PPP’s public supervision search reflects the previous day. VINELink may report a covered status change on a different schedule. When two sources disagree, place each timestamp and agency in order, then call the agency whose custody is at issue. A newer record from the correct custodian is more useful than a broad assumption based on one missing result.
