Review Union County 72-Hour Releases

A Union County 72 hour release list would provide a rolling view of adults released in the last 72 hours. No official county feed publishes that three-day result. The adult inmate portal instead offers recent “In Custody On” snapshots, which can help compare a date three days ago with the current roster. That comparison is only a lead. It does not show when custody ended, why the booking closed, or whether another agency received the person. Confirming a Union County release requires the detention center's closing record and, when relevant, the court, corrections, supervision, or notification record that explains the next event.

Union County Three-Day Feed Status

Union County publishes no verified official 72-hour release feed. The county detention page and Sheriff Jeff Bailey's office link to a Zuercher inmate portal, but Union's configuration does not enable a release-date column or filter. It also gives no hourly or daily update promise. The only stated warning is that data changes quickly, may contain errors, and is updated periodically.

A true three-day release list would identify the end of custody and normally include a release date, time, type, and facility. Union's portal does not supply those fields. It offers a current view and a historical “In Custody On” control that reaches no more than seven days into the past.

Important: The seven-day control is not a released-person archive. A changed roster is inconclusive until the jail identifies the closing event.

Compare Union County Release Dates

A three-day comparison is useful when a same-day check was missed. It can preserve the narrow fact that a person appeared in Union custody on the selected prior date. Follow the comparison with direct confirmation.

  1. Open the official Union inmate portal and search the current roster by name.
  2. Set “In Custody On” to the calendar date three days earlier. Match age, arrest date, held-for agency, and hold context.
  3. Record only the result supported by each view. “Appeared three days ago” is accurate. “Was released” is not yet supported.
  4. Call the Union County Detention Center at 864-429-2818 and ask for release date, time, authority, and receiving agency.
  5. Request the booking/release sheet if a durable or exact record is required.

The Released Last 24 Hours path is better for a same-day question. The full Union County released inmate search helps when the county record points to another custody system.

The Union configuration endpoint documents the fields and historical setting used in the comparison:

The screenshot supports a historical custody check, but its missing release field is equally important. The portal cannot identify the reason that an entry vanished.

Union County Release Evidence

Keep portal evidence separate from requested release-record evidence. Combining the two without labels can turn a reasonable inference into an unsupported claim.

A booking photograph is an arrest-processing image. It does not establish conviction or release. Juveniles are excluded from the adult portal, and the Upstate Regional Evaluation Center must not be checked through adult Union or SCDC searches.

Union County Weekend Release Checks

A 72-hour window can bridge a weekend or holiday when no one checked the roster each day. It does not fix the portal's core limitation. Union County publishes no release cadence, no exact processing schedule, and no web retention rule. The selected prior date is merely one snapshot in a rapidly changing system.

Magistrates Court conducts bail-bond hearings twice daily, so a bond order may explain a change seen across the weekend. Check the Magistrates Court and the Union Public Index for legal authority. Then use the jail record for the actual time of release. A case can remain pending after bond.

Other explanations remain possible. A short sentence may end. Another agency may collect the person. A county detainee may enter SCDC. In each case, the person can vanish from Union's current roster without entering the community.

Release
The end of one custodian's control, sometimes into the community and sometimes to another authority.
Time served
A sentence credited or completed, though a different hold can remain.
Detainer
A request or basis for another authority to take or retain custody.

Union County Release Record Fallback

South Carolina FOIA supplies a more durable recent-history route. Section 30-4-30(D)(3) requires public bodies, during office hours and subject to exemptions, to make documents identifying people confined during the preceding three months available without insisting on a written request. That rule does not create a three-day release list. It helps when the seven-day web comparison is too short or incomplete.

For a release record, use the official Union County FOIA request form. Submit it to the Union County Supervisor's Office, Attn: Clerk to Council, 203 West Main Street, Union, SC 29379. The office phone is 864-429-1600. A narrow request should name the person, approximate booking date, and identifiers, then ask for booking number, admission, release date and time, authority or code, bond details, and receiving agency.

South Carolina law gives the agency ten business days to determine whether newer records are available, excluding weekends and legal holidays. Production may take longer. The county can charge actual search, retrieval, and redaction cost, and a deposit cannot exceed 25 percent.

The determination period is twenty business days for records older than 24 months. Once access is approved, production is generally due within 30 calendar days for newer material or 35 calendar days for older material. A required deposit starts the production clock when paid. These statutory periods explain why a formal request is a durable evidence path, not a substitute for an urgent phone call about a recent custody change.

Ask for electronic transmission when the record already exists in electronic form. State law bars a copy fee for that transmission, though actual search and redaction charges may still apply. If part of a record is exempt, request the remaining segregable portion and the legal basis for each withheld part.

Confirm Union County Release Outcomes

The next record depends on what ended Union custody. A court bond or disposition can explain legal authority. The SCDC current search can confirm state intake after a transfer. The separate SCDC historical release database is for state prisoners who left SCDC, not people who merely left the Union jail.

VINELink can show an adult custody-status event reported by a participating agency and can provide notifications. Read the agency with the status. A release alert from Union does not rule out SCDC, ICE, federal, or another county's custody, and notification registration must be renewed after an agency transfer.

Identity checks matter across all four routes. The Union portal gives age rather than a full birth date, so compare the arrest date and held-for agency as well as the name. An SCDC result should match an SCDC ID or SID when one is available. Court records are safest when searched by case number. If two records conflict, place them in time order: arrest and booking, court authorization, the jail's physical release or transfer transaction, intake by a new custodian, and any later supervision entry. That order often explains an apparent contradiction. A court may authorize bond before release processing finishes, while an SCDC record may appear only after state intake. Report the narrow fact each source supports instead of filling a gap with an assumption.

The Union County Detention Center and Prison Work Facility also houses some SCDC inmate workers. Their departure from the local complex may be an SCDC movement while state custody continues. Confirm which agency owns the record before choosing a search system.

For a state-prison discharge tied to Union, search the separate SCDC Released Inmate Search by release-date range and County=UNION. Read Release Date with Release Type. Values such as PROBATION, SUPV RE-ENTRY, and COMMUNITY SUPV point toward SCDPPPS. The county choice is a committing-county attribute, not a promise that release occurred at a gate in Union County or that the person now lives there. The search has no released-person photo field and does not cover a release from the Union jail.

Read Union County Release Roster

The official portal view illustrates how current booking details are presented:

The image helps locate the historical control and identity fields. It does not turn the portal into an official list of people released during the previous 72 hours.

Note: Use the three-day comparison as a lead, then confirm the closing transaction with the office that maintained the booking.
